We actually had a similar discussion back when the ship was still a rough sketch (how long ago was that?). I\'d point out that having one engine on a fighter jet would also have similar redundancy issues, but we still have the F-16. Also, I think with the fudge room we have to say things like "this engine design is unusually reliable, allowing the ship to run on one large engine, rather than a less efficient tandem design" or "while appearing to be a single large unit, the Corona\'s engine is actually an array of six smaller semi-independent units" means it\'s really not a huge issue.

I think for a freighter, expecialy a bulk one, a single larger engine, providing more maximum thrust is the best choice. Multiple engines are cooler, but the real performance for a freighter engine comes from its max (and to steal a marine term) "torque" (Power). I think the single large engine is fine, but maybe two smaller emergency thrusters on each wing would be good as well (aslo help for fine manuvering while landing/taking off, or navigating hazards.)

I like the idea that the engine is actually an array of 6 engines instead of one.

Redundancy my friends
Lose one engine, and you still have some thrust to get home on if you have more than one engine.  Lose your one engine in a single engine ship an.....

Not to mention there is something to be said for "thrust steering" which is a simpler form of "thrust vectoring"

Good work Klick...no, EXCELLENT work

Meh, I appreciate the offer, but it\'s not something I can hand off to someone else, as a lot of it draws from my internal design processes and ideas for the ship I never posted. Don\'t worry though, I will get this finished.

This is the first time I've laid eyes on this version... and to say I like it is like saying someone struck by lightning is feeling "a little under the weather."  Magnificent work, Klick!

I do see however that it's been several months since the last update to this thread.  Are there final images yet?

Not yet. I've been pretty busy, so I've only now gotten back to doing some deckplanning work. I'll see if I can put together an update by the end of the weekend.
